Three members of the East Cornwall Harriers running club — Nicky Rudgley, Paula Richardson and Sarah Steed — recently headed to Bodmin with a clear goal: to map out a brand-new 26-mile route for their next marathon challenge.
Their first stop was Shire House, where they found out about the Bodmin Way and purchased four of the five available walking guide leaflets, along with route passports for their nine-strong team to stamp at churches along the way.
Next, they headed to St Petroc’s Church in search of the final leaflet — and luckily found copies waiting for them on the Bodmin Way display stall.
To extend the main 21-mile walking route into a full marathon distance, the runners plan to incorporate additional circular sections from St Petroc’s and St Meubred’s Church.
Having already completed the Camel Trail and November’s Cornish Marathon, the group was keen to take on something different — and the scenic variety of the Bodmin Way clearly impressed.
Their run is scheduled for Sunday 26 April, so if you spot flashes of yellow and black speeding around the stunning Bodmin Way, it’ll be the Harriers in action.
The team are also keenly eyeing up Bodmin’s annual Beacon Beast Marathon, particularly impressed by how the event combines both full and half marathon options on the same day.
And for those feeling inspired, there’s still time to sign up for this year’s full Beacon Beast Marathon with a waiting list for the half, both taking place on 19 April 2026.
