Community Space Buzzes

Updated: Oct 17

Bodmin Way's Community Space weekly get together is made possible by volunteers and donations from local supermarkets and bakeries. The mix of church and community volunteers with many attendees is a winning combination.

Volunteer Revd Elaine Munday brings it all together and is always up for a chat, from food to music and matters of faith.

One of the talented volunteer cooks, Helen, is described by Binny as being “the kingpin of our food table.” Similarly, Binny uses her culinary skills to provide delicious meals and puddings. Others, like Mikey, have done their share of making numerous meals enjoyed by many.

Binny explained how huge numbers of meals appear each week. It starts off with supermarket donations and some purchased ingredients ready for cooking. A massive amount of effort goes into making the meals and packing, labelling and transporting them to the Parish Centre. Everything vanishes every week.

Denise is one of the table service volunteers while Lesley stays in the kitchen to wash up all the dishes!

Dean said: “I come here to enjoy the community and meet new people.”

Another attendee said: “I’m here every Friday. The company is good, and the breakfast is great!”

Geoffrey comes along weekly and helps clear up at the end. He said: “You have to give something back to the community.”

Jeremy attends regularly for a change of scene and helps transport meals up and down stairs.

Sue comes every Friday and helps stack chairs after most have left.

Bodmin Way's Community Space, at St. Petroc’s Parish Centre, is the go-to place for many on a Friday morning. The atmosphere is buzzing, everyone’s chatting, breakfasts are eaten, meals and food are chosen to take home for later – it’s amazing!
