On the eve of St Piran’s Day, the beautiful surroundings of St Petroc’s Church were filled with music as Bodmin Way Community Choir and Berrycombe School came together for a special evening celebrating Cornish-themed songs.
Mr Coles accompanied his enthusiastic Year 5 choir on an unusual guitar-cum-ukulele as they proudly sang songs reflecting their Cornish heritage. The performance brought energy and excitement to the evening, and the children clearly enjoyed the opportunity to sing in such a historic setting.
One of the highlights of the event came when Mr Coles invited the parents to sing some of the songs themselves. To the delight of the children, many parents happily took up the challenge, creating a wonderful moment of shared music and community spirit.
Bodmin Way Community Choir, the town’s intergenerational group of singers, conducted by Caroline Bailey, also performed a selection of Cornish songs that were warmly received by the audience.
This event marked the first time the two choirs have collaborated, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
Mr Coles already has a vision for the future, hoping to expand the event next year by inviting other choirs from Bodmin to take part in what could become a much larger celebration of Cornish music and culture.
With such a positive response from singers and audience members alike, this joyful evening of music may well become a cherished annual tradition.
