JACKIE'S journey

👥Jackie shares her Bodmin Way story:

My journey with Bodmin Way began quite simply, with a conversation. During a visit to Community Space, I met Parish Nurse Geraldine, who warmly invited me to attend the weekly community café gathering. That small invitation marked the beginning of something truly meaningful in my life.

Before long, I became a regular at the Friday meetup. With a food hygiene certificate already under my belt, it felt natural to lend a hand with the catering—and I’ve never looked back.

Today, I prepare the lunchtime soup for Community Cuppa and support both catering and table service at Community Space. This includes helping out at the weekly “Weigh & Pray” sessions (I take care of the “weigh” part!). I also enjoy stewarding at evening concerts held at St Petroc’s Church, which is always a lovely way to connect with the community.

While these roles are voluntary, I’m also proud to be employed by Bodmin Way to lead the weekly Time Together group, held in Shire House Suite, Bodmin. I organise the catering and entertainment for this friendly, welcoming café, supported by a fantastic team of volunteers who bring energy, warmth, and fun to every gathering.

What I love most about my work is the people. The conversations, the laughter, and the simple joy of spending quality time together are what make it all so special. Seeing people come out, connect, and genuinely enjoy themselves is the highlight of everything I do.

Outside of my roles, I enjoy cooking, gardening, doing jigsaws, and watching movies—simple pleasures that bring balance and joy to my days. I’m also delighted that my daughter, Keeley, shares in this journey. She volunteers alongside me at Community Cuppa and Community Space and is an official volunteer in her own right.

Being part of Bodmin Way has enriched my life in ways I never expected. What started as a chat has grown into a fulfilling and joyful experience, rooted in community, connection, and care.
